MATCHA WHITE HOT CHOCOLATE | WITH SNOWMAN MARSHMALLOWS

Ingredients

FOR THE MATCHA WHITE HOT CHOCOLATE
  • 4 tsp of our matcha
  • 8 oz hot, but not boiling water
  • 32 oz milk (we use unsweetened almond milk)
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (we use Ghiradelli)
FOR THE SNOWMAN MARSHMALLOWS
  • square marshmallows, large enough to cut out small rounds (or make homemade marshmallows & cut into rounds)
  • 2 tbsp white chocolate chips, melted with 1/4 tsp coconut oil
  • 1/4 tsp ground annatto (aka: achiote molido)
  • 2 tbsp dark chocolate chips, melted with 1/4 tsp coconut oil

Instructions

FOR THE MATCHA WHITE HOT CHOCOLATE
  • Using a fine mesh sifter, sift matcha into a saucepan
  • Add 8oz of hot, but not boiling water to saucepan & whisk matcha with hot water until very smooth & no lumps remain (we recommend a matcha whisk for this task)
  • Add the white chocolate chips & the milk to the saucepan & heat over medium low heat, stirring often until white chocolate is fully melted
  • Heat the matcha white hot chocolate until it is your desired drinking temperature (if you keep it below 180f degrees, the antioxidants in the matcha will not get damaged)
  • Pour matcha into mugs, top each mug with marshmallows & serve
FOR THE SNOWMAN MARSHMALLOWS
  • Cut marshmallows into rounds (we used two different sizes)
  • Place 2 tbsp white chocolate chips with 1/4 tsp of coconut oil in a small dish & microwave in 20 second increments, stirring after each increment, until white chocolate is perfectly melted & smooth
  • Sprinkle in annatto powder & stir well to combine
  • Using a toothpick with one of the pointed ends snipped off, dip the toothpick into the now orange melted white chocolate & draw the noses on each marshmallow round
  • Place 2 tbsp dark chocolate chips with 1/4 tsp of coconut oil in a small dish & microwave in 20 second increments, stirring after each increment, until dark chocolate is perfectly melted & smooth
  • Using a toothpick with one of the pointed ends snipped off, dip the toothpick into the melted dark chocolate & dab on the eyes & mouth of the snowman onto each round
  • Allow chocolate snowman faces to set at room temperature before serving

Notes

*To achieve a beautiful green hue with your matcha white hot chocolate, we highly recommend using a top quality culinary matcha. Low quality matcha will not be vibrant green, but instead will result in a dull brownish color
